Central location
Naturally, we mention the most obvious benefit first. Wassenaar is centrally located and the small town is easy to reach. It doesn’t matter which part of Wassenaar you’re in, you can be on the motorway within 5 to 10 minutes. Rotterdam and Amsterdam are 30 to 40 minutes’ drive away and it takes about 15 minutes to drive to The Hague. Wassenaar also has good public transport connections. The closest stations are Voorschoten and Leiden Centraal, from where you can get a train to all major cities. Buses link various locations in Wassenaar to The Hague, Leiden and Haarlem.
As part of the Randstad, (the conurbation of the four main cities Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and The Hague) Wassenaar is an oasis of tranquillity and it’s close to the beach and sea, and the wonderful dunes.
Wassenaar is in a unique location. Although it’s part of the busy Randstad (Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and The Hague), Wassenaar is an oasis of tranquillity and greenery, close to the beach and dunes. It takes about 25 minutes to cycle to the beach and dunes from the centre of Wassenaar. The beach is also easy to reach by car and there’s plenty of parking at the Wassenaarse Slag. There are many wonderful walks through Wassenaar’s woods and dunes. There are also two world-famous museums in Wassenaar: The Louwman museum (cars) and Museum Voorlinden (modern and contemporary art). Both museums are well worth a visit!

Onderwijs
Wassenaar heeft maar liefs 8 (!) basisscholen verspreid over het dorp. En natuurlijk hebben zijn er ook diverse peuterspeelzalen en naschoolse opvang. Verder zijn er twee zeer goed aangeschreven middelbaren scholen; Rijnlands Lyceum en het Adelbert College, en diverse bedrijven die huiswerkbegeleiding bieden. Vanwege het grote aantal expats die in de Randstad wonen zijn er in en rondom Wassenaar diverse internationale scholen te vinden. The American School is in Wassenaar gesitueerd. Het buurdorp Voorschoten heeft The British School en in Den Haag vind u nog meer internationale scholen.
Winkels en horeca
Steeds meer horeca gelegenheden vestigen zich in en rondom het centrum van Wassenaar. Of je nu van Italiaans, Indisch, Grieks, Spaanse tapas of de Franse keuken houdt, Wassenaar heeft het allemaal. Het centrum heeft veel winkels. Van juwelier tot Hema, 4-tal supermarkten, diverse boetieks, parfumeriezaken, te veel om op te noemen.
Sportfaciliteiten
Wassenaar is ook een heel sportief dorp en beschikt over veel sportfaciliteiten. Voetbal, tennis, hockey, american baseball, boxen, fitness, u noemt het, Wassenaar heeft het. Het aantal golfclubs is behoorlijk gegroeid, een aantal hockey clubs hebben náást de hockey velden ook een drivingrange en/of een 9-holes baan aangelegd. Voor de golfliefhebbers ligt in de duinen van Wassenaar één van de mooiste banen van Nederland; de KHG&CC.
